By virtue of being the highest placed athlete from the last camp I was wearing the leaders pink jersey today. I didn’t feel I really deserved so thought I better go out and show the jersey some respect. We opened up with the traditional 2km TT, Gordo swam in the 50m outdoor pool yesterday and suggested we wear wetsuits, those that went speedo’s only were given a 2minute (6 sec per hundred) start. I went out pretty hard as Gordo decided to go non wetsuit so I needed to get 150m up on him to beat him. I lapped him at the 1km mark and eased off. Surprisingly Molina was off colour so I took it out with Gordo 2nd (on handicap) and Scott 3rd.

As per usually the opening bike was testosterone filled with attacks a plenty. The scenery was great up the side of Lake Guarda then up to Trento although the traffic was a little on the heavy side in parts. There was more than a few close shaves and the approach to Trento was a tad dicey to put it lightly. We had to come through a tunnel that was maybe 4km long, quite dark, dual carriage way and we were probably going 60-70km/hr. I don’t think I was the only one with white knuckles coming out of the tunnel.

Somewhat surprisingly the tacking on was non existent from most of the campers today. I went out for a bonus 30km with Michael Peters and then up to the pool for some bonus points. I was a little tired at the end of the day. However big Steven Lord decided to go out and do a 2.5hr run to take the pink jersey by ½ a point. I have a feeling running 3hrs20 on day one may have some impact on his legs in the days that follow but we’ll see.

Must go to bed now 10pm. Hope to get a podcast up tomorrow.
